I am becoming a wise reader (and writer) again.
Note: Everything here is 100% me, no AI. This is the video evidence for this blog post. I just wanna be true to myself.
Today has been an exciting day because I returned like a prodigal daughter to one of the most useful and one of my favorite tools as a reader and a writer.
Earlier today, I almost lost my focus and will to do my priorities because of a frustration from a waste of time. I recorded a YouTube video using Voice Notes just to get the transcription of it to take notes from and it halted almost two hours of supposedly for focus learning and creating. (This made me get more frustrated on AI overall.)
It suddenly occurred to me how there is a better alternative to what I am doing.
And with their 60-day trial offer using David Perell's How I Write sponsorship link, it got even better! I created a new Readwise account using a new email! Now, everything just got exciting!
You see, I have been frustrated on how I take notes from YouTube live streaming and from podcasts.
Every Wednesday and Sunday, I'm joining a YouTube live streaming event for our church and I love taking notes from preaching BUT my previous process was so time-consuming and cumbersome. Before, Readwise Reader doesn't allow transcription for almost 3-hour live streaming video replays specially when it is using my native Filipino language. I ended up always using Voice Notes to record the whole preaching so I can get the transcription of the whole live streaming replay.
The most annoying downside of that process is I can't use my laptop for the whole duration of the recording of the preaching to not interrupt its recording. Then, after getting the transcription, it wasn't even accurate so I needed to check and edit some things as well. I always ended up finding myself getting lazy and not taking notes or learning from the preaching that I want to learn from.
This changed today because surprisingly, Readwise Reader supports our language now and even supports long live streamed video replays! It's the same thing with podcasts; now, I can just add the podcast RSS feed and the script of the latest podcast episode will be ready for me. They didn't have this before!
The thing that I love the most here is I don't need a lot of apps now!
Before this day, my process is using Apple Books to highlight on my laptop, using Annotate to highlight on my iPhone, and using Voice Notes to record transcription of videos and podcasts. These all takes me a lot of time from consumption to taking notes and it frustrated me so much!
Now, I am positive starting tomorrow, I will easily get to the first twelve target fleeting notes before processing each into permanent notes.
Now, starting tomorrow, I'm positive I will get to read more books, listen to more podcasts, watch more videos, read more newsletter issues, learn from more preaching and above all, they are all in one place!
I love being a reader and a writer better because of Readwise Reader.
